National Power Supply Public Company Limited or NPS, the integrated power producer in electricity and steam, moved forward with the 3 phases of Floating Solar Farm Projects, the largest farm in Thailand, located in Prachinburi province, with a total capacity of 150 MW. The commercial operation date (COD) of the first 2 phases had started, with a capacity of 60 MW. This is to comply with the government policy on supporting sustainable energy in Thailand and achieve Net-Zero Carbonization Emission within 2050, and Net- Zero GHG Emission within 2050, and also to support the emerging needs of clean energy from the 304 Industrial Park customers.
Mr. Yothin Dumnernchanvanit, Executive Director of National Power Supply Public Company Limited, reveals that in the past 3-4 years, there were more manufacturers from Europe and Asia Pacific moving their production base to 304 Industrial Park in Prachinburi. The reasons were the trade war between the United States of America and China, and the economic boycott in many countries. Nonetheless, the manufacturers are more focused on the importance of clean energy in the production line, to show the responsibility for climate change and environmental impact. NPS adjusted the business strategies to manage the clean energy to the customers efficiently and stably. The 2 phases of the Floating Solar Farm Project in Prachinburi province were COD in October with a production capacity of 30 MW each, or a total capacity of 60 MW.
“The first 2 phases of the Floating Solar Farms have been generated and COD in October with a total capacity of 60 MW. The phase 3 of the floating solar farm with a capacity of 90 MW is in the construction process. It is expected to be completed within 2024. This will increase the total capacity of NPS’s floating solar farms to 150 MW, and increase the total capacity of the Company from 770 MW to 920 MW. This is to comply with the Company’s strategies to decrease the cost of the fuel, and support the needs of clean energy for the industrial customers at 304 Industrial Park. The floating solar farm also attracts the new potential customers who pay attention to the environment to invest in the Industrial Park”, said Mr. Yothin.
The main business of NPS is the electricity, steam, and water generating business. NPS has a total of 12 power plants in Thailand, with an electricity and steam combined installed capacity of 796.05 MW, a steam production capacity of 2,486.78 tons per hour, and water treatment plants with a production capacity of 160,000 CMB per day. Moreover, NPS has strengthened the power business by acquiring Biomass Energies d’Alizay (BEA), located in France, in April 2022. This increases the potential to expand the investment in Biomass power plants in France and in European countries by having BEA as a base. The Company also invested in the IPP joint venture, with the installed capacity of 600 MW. It will be completed and begin to COD to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand within 2027.
