Mr. Yothin Dumnernchanvanit, President, National Power Supply PCL or “NPS”, highlighted that the marketing business has exceeded the target, with 11 new industrial customers establishing manufacturing plants in 304 Industrial Park throughout the first three quarters of 2024, with the total investment capital for the construction of approximately 100,000 million Baht, increasing the number of the Company’s industrial customers to 140 at the end of quarter 3/2024, with the electricity consumption demand of 326 MW in total. Once these industrial customers’ plants commence full operations as planned, the electricity demand from NPS will increase to 687 MW within 2027, which is higher than the current net electricity generation capacity. Therefore, the Company is accelerating the construction of a biomass power plant (NPP12) with the capacity of 115 MW in replacement of NPP 6 and 11 with the combined capacity of 70 MW. NPP12 Power Plant will be using black liquor derived from Double A’s paper pulp production previously supplied to NPP6 and 11 of 3,300 dry tons per day as fuels. With advanced and more efficient technology, NPP12 will be able to generate more electricity than NPP6 and 11 by about 45 MW. The construction will begin in the middle of 2025, and once completed in 2027, NPS’s electricity generation capacity will increase from 700 MW to 745 MW. After that, the Company also has a plan to reconfigure NPP6 and 11 to be able to take in chopped wood as fuel instead of tree sap within 2029, which is expected to increase the total electricity generation capacity to 815 MW.
The second phase of the floating solar farm installation project has progressed by 30 MW as planned, enabling the Company to supply the electricity from solar energy into the grid for commercial distribution of 90 MW in total in quarter 3/2024. The remaining 67 MW is expected to be completed and ready for commercial distribution within quarter 2/2025, all in all increasing NPS’s total electricity generation capacity from the floating solar farm to 157 MW.
Furthermore, the Company is actively executing the Green Logistics project, incorporating EV trucks for fuel transportation in replacement of diesel-engine trucks and NGV trucks. Currently, 215 EV trucks are in operation, with the plan to increase to 500 trucks. The charging stations will be installed in 8 different locations within 2027. In this regard, all EV trucks in the fleet will mainly be consuming electricity generated from the Company’s floating solar farm, which will help reduce electricity expense by more than 50%.
The Company’s active execution of the Floating Solar Farm and Green Logistics projects will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions in a sustainable manner and reflect NPS’s vision to take part in driving the Net Zero Emission aspiration towards the target, in parallel with placing emphasis on sustainable development, covering environmental, social and governance aspects or ESG, which will truly be of benefit to all stakeholders.
